It was a joy to work with good friends and talented architects Crew to photograph their recently completed garden extension in Edinburgh. This intricate little building is beautifully crafted and changes in character at different times of day and lighting conditions. I particularly loved the warm glow from the timber panelling in the snug area. This space can also be easily closed off with big sliding timber panels when you choose to bunker down in front of the fire. The choice of materials, the juxaposition between old and new, along with their attention to detail is beautiful something Crew are particularly good at.
I was invited to take some images for JM Architects of their new studio in the Merchant City, Glasgow. They had converted a ground floor shop into their studio, maintaining the shop front feel and interaction with the public. Each month they have different small exhibitions in the window which is a nice touch and helps further this dialogue with passers by. Whilst I was taking pictures, a couple of people asked me when the shop was opening, so I think they have achieved creating that shop front feel and fitting in with the existing shop fronts either side.
This project was shortlisted as part of the RIAS 2015 Awards and nominated in the Scottish Design Awards 2015.
